What You Need to Know to Know Before Proceeding with Invisalign
Invisalign is a great choice for correcting your overbite or crooked teeth.
As a form of clear braces, they are the perfect solution for straight teeth, using a series of virtually invisible and removable aligners.
Before you jump right in, though, there are a few things you’ll want to know about in advance so your Invisalign treatment goes as smooth as possible.
1. You do actually need to wear them.
To reap the rewards, you will have to wear your Invisalign to see results. Apart from eating, drinking, and brushing, you should wear your aligners at all times.
You and your dentist will discuss a treatment plan unique to you, but the average treatment time for Invisalign is 18 months. You will also need to wear them for at least 20 hours a day.
Be prepared for this level of commitment. On the bright side, most people won’t even be able to notice you are wearing them!
2. You can’t see them, but you might be able to hear them.
They may be invisible to others, but Invisalign aligners are still braces.
They may affect your speech and cause you to speak with a slight lisp while you adjust to talking with your aligners. For some patients, this lisp is barely noticeable, but for others, it can be apparent.
It may take only a few days or even a few weeks to adjust, but eventually, your lisp will go away. And if it doesn’t, be sure to speak with your dentist as this may indicate your aligners don’t properly fit.
3. You’ll have to adjust your lifestyle a bit.
Prepare for Invisalign power meals.
If you do decide to go with Invisalign treatment, you’ll need to start eating and drinking quickly, brushing your teeth, and placing your aligners back in to see the best results. For some, this can affect their routines, especially if they enjoy a nice, slow cup of morning coffee.
